Simple Prints | OOTD

At this point we all know this Houston summer will only get hotter so why not keep cool the way we used to when we were kids. Matching short sets!!! Some may also call it resort wear because it does give you that vacation feel. I can’t count how many my siblings and I had as kids. With two younger brothers and one older sister I bet my mom just wanted to keep things simple. It takes all the guess work out of getting dressed. You know you have a top and bottom with the same print so getting dressed is a breeze.

The hardest part about this look was choosing the print. I went for my favorite colors (black and white) and threw on my trusty wedges. All done! The leaf print just really makes me feel like I should be relaxing so I will be doing so on my sofa until my trip in July. Lol When it comes to fit the top is a crop style so it’s boxy and loose. The shorts are loose as well but have a high waist. This is good news for people like my who enjoy a good crop top but don’t want to show too much belly button. Just a little sliver of school is perfect.

Leave me a comment and tell me what your favorite childhood summer gear is, Enjoy!

Weekend Wrap Up

This weekend was a blur! I was beyond busy with blogging and things around the house but all-in-all in was GREAT!! I met so many new people, had tons of fun, worked with amazing designers and photographers on photo shoots and even finished OITNB (Orange Is The New Black). Side Note: I can’t believe I have to wait another year for a new season. I’m more than sad about that!

All of my activities started Wednesday with hosting a private preview party at Mod Chic Boutique in Rice Village. I also hosted the Summer Garden Tea Party event at Mod Chic Boutique on Saturday. There is nothing like seeing peoples eyes light up when they lay their eyes on a garment that they know is perfect for them.

Sunday was soooo eventful! I started by attending the Brown Bloggers Brunch at Sweet Paris in City Center. The food was yummy and the company was amazing. Right after that, I traveled a few minutes away to the monthly Houston Bloggers Union meeting. There Elly, Jillian, and Jaclyn discussed ways to discover your value and monetize your blog. They were hilarious to listen to but more than that, they were honest in lending a hand to up and coming bloggers.

Lastly I was able to be a part of Designer Natalie Harris’s Damsel White Label Renegade Shoot Out. Natalie provided her out-of-the-box wedding gowns and models, while vendors brought in bouquets, flower crowns, and almost any prop you could imagine. Photographers were free to style their own shoots by selecting the gowns, models, etc.

When I finally got home I was truly exhausted but I honestly don’t regret one minute of it! Cheers to busy weekends, Enjoy the recap!

Stylist Ashley Dunn

If you haven’t seen a stylist work to create looks in person than you are missing out on a huge part of the fashion industry. Imagine a busy little bee buzzing around from flower to flower collecting nectar. Watching stylist Ashley Dunn work gave me that same exact visual. I watched her start with inspiration, then she covered an ENTIRE store in about 30 minutes before she started narrowing them down. It was like magic, watching all these separate pieces come together for a complete looks.

As I got to talk more with Ashley I found out that she was not only pulling clothes for an upcoming menswear shoot, but a video shoot as well. The shoots were a few days away but on the day of our meeting she still had to speak to pageant girls at The University of Houston about personal styling. Her to-do-list goes on and on and things are added to it on an hourly basis. She keeps a running list of times, places and locations for her schedule. While most of the world is sleeping Ashley stays up as late as she needs to, to be sure that her daily list is organized for the next day.

Things had not always been so busy for this now experienced stylist working in Houston. Starting out in the corporate world, Ashley eventually left that career to follow her passion and dreams of being a respected, working stylist. Not only did she chase her dreams, she caught them! In 2003 Ashley was still pursuing her degree in college but she knew a career in fashion would make her feel fulfilled. From then until now, the market for stylists in Houston has changed dramatically. There was little demand when she first began styling so making something out of nothing was what she did. She set goals and networked to meet the right people in the industry. Over time people took note of her work ethic and professionalism. In combination with her keen sense on style, it propelled her to the top. She now attends NYFW and has a regular monthly segment on Great Day Houston. She’s a got expert on style and fashion.

None of this came easy, it was worked and sacrificed for! When I asked Ashley how many career goals  she has set and met for herself, she said “It is hard to keep count, but the true blessings are the unexpected milestones that you reach along the way. Being recognized among your peers is and continues to be one of the more rewarding elements.”

Back to Basics | OOTD

You slept through your alarm or didn’t set it. You hit the snooze 4 times and now you’re going to be late! When you’re in a rush and you need to get out of the house quickly go back to your basics. Black, white, a crew neck t-shirt, and jeans always do the trick for me. I don’t have to worry about matching, other colors, or it being comfy. It’s all so easy and best of all, you can’t mess it up. Lol

Leave me a comment of what you grab out of your closet when you’re really short on time. Enjoy!

Mellow Yellow | OOTD

This outfit of the day was inspired by laziness! I had somewhere to go but because I’m on summer break, everyday feels like a t-shirt and jeans day to me. Rather than fight it, I went with it. I grabbed my most comfortable pair of mid-rise jeans from Old Navy and a fancier version of a t-shirt. I got this yellow top from H & M a year ago and honestly I haven’t worn it very much. It do really like the top and it came in handy. It has a nice delicate detail around the V-neck of the collar and an easy cap sleeve.  Although I look pulled together I felt very comfortable which was the goal. I threw on a pair of low comfy heels, grabbed my purse and was on my way.

Leave me a comment and let me know what your “go to” lazy day outfit is? Enjoy!
