Spring Classics with Ann Taylor

No matter how inconsistent the weather might be right now we are ready for spring and I’ve partnered with Ann Taylor to bring you a fresh spring look! Whether you are trendy or not Ann Taylor has you covered. Spring plaids and gingham are so in right now. You can also look forward to all of the “sun colors” making their annual comeback.

This look came about because I could not bring myself to choose between spring classics and trends. I just went ahead and put them both together. Lets start with the gingham jacket. Isn’t it lovely?!?! The cropped ruffled sleeve and classic fit means you will be able to wear it season after season.

To mix patterns and prints I paired an orange vertically striped sleeveless top underneath. Not only does it provide interest for the eye, it gives the classic silhouettes and modern feel. To help mellow out the prints and pattern with a a solid but bright pair of shorts. To help tie in the gingham jacket a pair if classic black block heels are in order.

When it comes to accessories I added yet another pop of color with these green pom pom earrings. I also brought back my favorite Ann Taylor floral clutch because it connects with the shoes and jacket but, what is spring  with out florals???

I hope you love this look as much as I do but the icing on the cake is that all of these pieces work together, but they also work independently with other pieces from your wardrobe. Enjoy!

Picnic Style with Old Navy

Now that our weather is beginning to be more pleasant, I’m partnering with Old Navy on this fashion post to bring you some picnic style! There are a few tips that you can keep in mind to make sure that you are comfortable and perfectly stylish for your outdoor soiree.

The first thing you should consider is always comfort. I chose the Old Navy power jeans because I know that they would be great to “mom” in. When you have little ones, you will end up chasing them, playing, and picking them up. I’d love to wear a pretty dress to a picnic if I were going with out my son. Do I go anywhere without him though? Ha ha!

In addition to comfort, think about you body temperature. It has been a very cool beginning to this spring season. I am always a little cold so I layered a horizontal striped tee under my gingham blouse. However, if I warm up while I’m out doors I can easily take off a layer. These two tops together are a fun moment for pattern play and the collar of the shirt is a sweet pop of color.

I know my shoes are super “matchy matchy” but thats why I love it. I chose these comfortable wedges with a cute gingham bow on them to compliment my look. I mean, I could not help but to  feel drawn to the idea of a “classic picnic blanket” with I styled this look.

Of course I had to bring in one more contrasting pop of color and my cross body purse was the answer. Now I’m ready for a super stylish picnic. Don’t forget you sunglasses!

Enjoy!

Boho Floral Midi Dress with Ann Taylor

Spring is well underway and there are so many goodies out there! Ann Taylor sponsored this perfect spring look and I can’t get enough of it. The colors, the prints and the fabrics are so nice. Y’all know that I buy clothing that can do double duty. Example: I like rompers that I can layer a skirt over to give the illusion that it’s a top. With that in mind, I styled this beautiful look in two different ways for you.

The idea of being able to take really similar looks from weekday to weekend is wonderful for busy life styles. You don’t have to have completely different looks, you only need a different accessories.

The hero piece in this look is my boho floral midi dress in a sunny yellow. Its bright color and soft print make it a delight to lay eyes on. It’s modest and professional so you can wear it to work with no problem. You can tackle meetings, coffee dates, go into the office and completely handle life in this look. To add to the sophistication, I added a pair of sueded heeled sandals in a rich berry color. They are a contrasting color from the dress so they really stand out. The icing on the cake is this black floral embroidered  envelope clutch purse. It is also contrasting in color to the star of this look (my dress) so the floral embroidery stands out even more.

On the other hand, if you want to look comfy yet chic on the weekends, you can simply dress it down with a flat or sneaker and a denim jacket. We all know that a touch of denim can make anything casual.

My favorite garments are the ones that are super versatile like this boho floral dress. It can take me through a full week and is appropriate for every setting.

Enjoy!

Photo Inspiration | IKEA Photo Challenge

Before you read any further, it is important for you to know the ALL of these photos were taken inside of Ikea Houston. 🙂 If you’re an IKEA lover like I am, this is soooo for you! If you find walking into Ikea a bit overwhelming (I know it’s a lot of stuff) this may be a way to help take things a little bit at a time. Most of all, this is a little life lesson on working with what you’ve got!

My blogging buddy Pam Del and I hit up Ikea for a different type of inspiration. This time it was all about taking the cute but ordinary displays/models and making it look like I woke up in my ideal patio, coffee shop, living room, and flower market!

The first set of images is on the ground level of Ikea Houston right before you get to the registers. As you can see, it looks like I am enjoying a nice cup of tea on a sunny day. The colors are fun and bright like spring and I have everything I need at my finger tips (Theoretically). In real life Pam had to strategically tuck and hide a lot of red tags to pull this shot off.

The second set of images gives you the illusion of being in a cozy out door coffee shop. Keeping the chill of with a nice pink moto jacket that is perfect for spring and and cool wide brimmed hat. I real life, Pam was hiding red tags left and right.

The third set of photos gives the illusion that I’ve just stumbled up a field of flowers or my neighborhood coffee shop! It’s so beautiful right?!?! Ikea is getting their hands on some really amazing faux flowers there days! Again, I’m wearing the perfect spring floral dress, the sun is shining on me and all is right with the world. Ha ha!

In the final set of photos, I reimagined my floral dress as a comfy robe and put my feet up to relax with a book after a long day. Looking relaxed, comfortable, and “at home” was the main goal of this photo. Pam got the perfect angle to capture this look.

This was so much fun to do because it serves as a blaring reminder to work with what you’ve got. There may be “red tags”(distractions) hanging everywhere and people (haters) staring at you because you are doing something unconventional. You can not let that stop you from taking your shot!

Enjoy!

Want more? My buddy Pam came to shoot my IKEA loving self & I got some awesome shots of her too! So head on over to her blog to see what she shot inside of IKEA!
