This is the first year in quite some time that I did not have resolutions already written down on a pretty piece of paper, saved in my notes to my phone, and used as a screensaver on January 1st. This holiday season leading up to the new year just felt different for me this time. Nothing was wrong per se, but I did not have the energy to push through get everything done and be “perfect“.

I just didn’t have it in me, so I didn’t. It was probably one of the best decisions that I’ve made for myself as a whole recently and the work in that is letting go of the feeling that I should have done it all to make that happen. I think that I made my resolution by not making a resolution. I’m finally ready to shed some of the pressures that I hold. Being a creator, mom ,wife, the holder of so many things, schedules and emotions, I decided to make space for it all instead of squeezing it all into tiny time frames.
In previous years, I also I took care of some of the bigger issues that I was having. The top one was being way too sedentary (thanks covid & zoom). On top of that, not making the best choices in the food that I eat. Last year I used Function Health to get a lot of blood work done ( over 130 bio markers) and I got a clearer picture of my overall health by seeing a functional medicine doctor. That helped me gain some clarity on things regarding my internal health. Since I have that under my belt, I’m just fine-tuning and sharpening my knowledge around it. I’m not really making the big changes because I’ve done it in previous years. I take nice, sometimes long walks several times a week. I now strength train at least 2 to 3 times a week and I’m adding a higher intensity cardio day for my heart health, but it just didn’t feel like I needed to make a big declaration this time because it’s my lifestyle now. 2 to 3 years ago, I definitely could not say the same.

If you made resolutions that are meaningful and that are really yours, that’s amazing. But if you did not, it’s also OK. You still have lots of time to make decisions about your life. In fact, every day is a new opportunity to do that no matter if it’s in January or June.
Take the weight off, let the pressure go and just flow through your life without the ideas of what other people are doing right now.
Authentically,
-B
