1 Tote, 10 Pieces, 4 days! | OOTD #1

For my most recent visit to San Francisco, California I wanted to pack super light and keep my wardrobe simple for the four days I would be there. I challenged myself to pack all I needed in my tote and to only take along 10 pieces. Those 10 pieces included 1 pair of shoes, 1 jacket, 1 pair of jeans, 2 pairs of leggings, 4 tops, and 1 dress. By doing this I didn’t have to check a bag which saved me some time and frustration in the airport.

This OOTD is the first day of my trip which happened to be on Cinco de Mayo. Luckily I was thrifting a few weeks prior and came across this cute top that resembles some traditional Mexican garments. I wore that floral top, with dark denim jeans, white chucks, and my green cargo jacket to the airport on day one of my trip.

Day one was full of adventure! My fabulous sister met me in San Francisco so we hit the ground running. We immediately started sight seeing as soon as we touched down and checked into our hostel The Green Tortoise. Our first stop was Taqueria Zorro for tortas, fries, beer, and Mexican fruit punch. Afterwards, we roamed around on foot and got lost a few times (it’s our tradition). We went to check out China town, Fisherman’s Wharf, ate donuts at Trish’s on the board walk, had fajitas at Puerto Alegre for dinner and checked out some shops in The Mission area. By the end of the night all we could do is uber to the hostel and crash.

The first day of a trip tends to be low key and relaxed but ours was action packed. We had so much we wanted to see and only 4 days to see it all. We didn’t see everything on our list but we came pretty dang close. Come back to the blog tomorrow to see OOTD for day 2 and see our happenings, Enjoy!

British Luxury | Age of Reason by Ali Mapletoft

Age of Reason is a British luxury print label with a playful punk twist. AOR has been featured on Vouge.com, Stylist Magazine, Grazia, In Style, Red Magazine and many more publications. I mean when super model Alek Wek and Rita Ora are wearing your designs it’s a big deal! Needless to say, I’m so honored to have AOR be my first international collaboration!

When designer Ali Mapletoft and I discovered each other on Instagram it was love at first like! I adored the free spirit of her designs and she enjoyed my natural hair, attitude and confidence. We instantly wished we weren’t a 10 hour flight away from each other. We quickly put our minds together and she directed my Age of Reason shoot from abroad. As I learned more about Ali I found out that she doesn’t follow fashion trends, but instead, designs for the playfully rebellious souls that want to wear  and celebrate something a bit unusual. You will see parodies of British royalty, bold colors, nautical themes and fun prints in many of Ali’s Age of Reason designs. Beyond that , she is committed to sustainability, producing her line locally and insists on knowing the individuals that she purchases her clothing and accessories from.

The pineapple print scarf is inspired by 18th century botanical prints. It’s 100% silk, amazingly soft and huge! This means you can repurpose and wear it in so many different ways. Just in this shoot alone, I styled it as a head wrap, scarf, shirt, and a funky “cardigan”. The pineapple print leggings are made from a stretchy scuba fabric which means it keeps its shape as you go about your day. The length of the leggings is great for short and tall girls alike and to top it off, they have a high waist.

The very best thing about collaborating with Ali is that she loved my personal aesthetic AS IS! She never asked me to change or tweak anything about myself. I am and was free to be Authentically+B, Enjoy!

Don’t for get to check out Age of Reason on line and on Instagram. Cheers!

Vintage Meets Chic

Most fashionistas love vintage clothing but don’t want to look frumpy while they’re wearing it. Jai Jones of Jaided325 has a keen eye for styling vintages pieces with everyday wear to create timeless chic looks.

As a young girl , Jai watched her mother dress in beautiful garments and that adoration soon turned into a passion for fashion. Jai has worked as a stylist and is no stranger to finding the right look by mixing old and new. Jai selects vintage pieces for Jaided325 not based on the age of the garment, but by what appeals to her. She admits that some of her more interesting pieces are for that woman who is bold and wants to stand out. To give that bold woman a one of a kind feel, Jai works internationally to provide exclusivity to her brand and customers.

Jaided325 is all clothing but Jai has a small (big, Ha Ha!) obsession with crazy shoes, hats, brooches  and purses. Every time she steps out you can expect a unique look that you won’t soon forget. Take a moment to check out Jai’s store located at Art Square Studios on Commerce to find your next outfit for any event. Enjoy!

Happy FriYaY!

Happy FriYay y’all! My ootd says it all right!?!? We made it to another Friday and it is cause for a celebration. Before you say that we should treat “everyday” like Friday, you must admit that sometimes Fridays feel like a breath of fresh air, light at the end of the tunnel, and guacamole on top of your chipotle bowl! 🙂

A few weeks ago I was browsing the explore tab on Instagram when I can across a cool t-shirt company called Hen&Will. They specialize in adorable kids t-shirts with hip saying and monograms. They had a “FriYay” shirt for kids but I loved it so much I couldn’t pass it up. I messaged the owners to see if it came in adult sizes. It didn’t at first but they assured me they could help get me one soon! Visit Hen&Will online and on Instagram to check out their cool kids wear and get your own FriYay t-shirt. Use promo code “AuthenticallyB” for 10% off your entire order.

The shirt is charcoal gray with white lettering so I paired it with white deconstructed denim jeans. Their are usually two versions of most of my ootd’s. One has a dressy shoe and the other version has a more comfortable shoe for running errands or just for plain ol’ comfort. I would wear my leopard ballet flats to run around and the heels for an outing with friends.

Do you have a Friday “uniform”?  If so, leave me a comment and tell me about what you like to wear to celebrate Fridays! Enjoy!

OOTD | Freedom

I’m naming this OOTD freedom for obvious reasons but the meaning is real. At this point in my life I’m feeling more free than ever. Some of my feelings of weightlessness come from my constant work toward a capsule (mix and match) wardrobe.

On this particular morning I was up, dressed and out of the house in about 30 minutes. This includes my low maintenance hair and makeup routine and being able to easily pick out an out because most things in my closet are easily matched with other pieces. I still have a long way to go with my clothes but I’ve made great progress. How’s your mix and match wardrobe working for you?

Enjoy!
