Fashion Resolutions | OOTD

It’s nearly February and I am doing well on my new year improvements but I have yet to make any concrete fashion resolutions. I was recently inspired by Bonobos.com to share some of my fashion resolutions for 2017 because they’re focusing on varied textures and the perfect fit for their new collection.

Just like any other improvements, writing things down make it more visible to you and keeps you reminded of your goals. It will be nice to look back on this blog post months from now to see how I’m sticking to my plans as well as how I change through out the year.

My first fashion resolution is to include more textures into my wardrobe. I plan to do this by taking my fuzzy sweater collection to the next level. (Ha ha!) Seriously though, having a piece that is more textured and not just a cotton blend will really help add interest to an entire look. In this OOTD, a mock neck fuzzy sweater with an interesting side slit does it for me.

My second resolution is to experiment more with monochromatic looks. I love this look on others as well as myself, but I find it tough to make sure my “blacks match” Lol Outside of that color, there is a lot of room for styling similar colors together to achieve a monochromatic look with out it matching “perfectly.” I met this goal in this OOTD by choosing a pant that is a few shades darker than my sweater.

My final fashion resolution for 2017 is to consistently add in bold accessories to give my entire look a pulled together feel with flare. The bold gold earrings and rosy sunglasses make this look feel complete with a slightly retro vibe. Most popular sunnies nowadays are super reflective or completely opaque so I’m stepping outside of the box with floral print sunnies.

I’m sure it will be a challenge to consistently incorporate theses elements into my looks but I welcome it!  As always, the details for this look are listed below with links. I’d love it if you left me a comment about your fashion resolutions. Enjoy!

Natural Hair | Tuck & Pin Style

I have had my box braids out for a while now and because of the length of my hair I have had to become very creative with my hair styles. It is sort of an awkward stage when it’s not long enough for some things and not short enough to just leave it alone and wear it as is.

I would classify this look as a tuck & pin style. Tuck & pins are great for any hair length and every hair stays put because of all of the bobby pins you’ll use. To begin, I blew my hair out with my blowdryer.  After it was stretched, I began at the very front in the center of my hair with a light braid/twist. Once each braid/twist is done, secure it with a bobby pin. Start on the right, twist and pin to the opposite side. Then move to the opposite side of your head and repeat. Continue this pattern until you reach the desired place you’d like to stop. Then use the same left to right pattern to braid out the remaining hair. Tuck it under and secure it with a bobby pin. It takes less than five minutes to do and people won’t believe that you did it yourself.

Leave me a comment about your favorite tuck & pin style. Enjoy!

Rosy Knit | OOTD

The first thing you MUST know is that I thrifted this rosy knit dress for around $3. I KNOW!!!! The second this you should know is…this is the perfect way to “do” Fall in Houston. It’s still warm but it is finally cooling off so having a loosely knit sweater is the way to go. I know you must be wondering what I’m wearing underneath. I took a walk on the bold side so I opted for a sleeveless body suit/leotard. Of course if you’d like this look to be more modest you could wear a slip dress for more coverage.

You know I can’t live with out my seasoned converse. They really help keep this look casual and effortless. I styled my trusty denim jacket with this look just in case the wind blows and I catch a chill on my barely covered backside. Lol A nice stand out pair of sunnies to complete this look and you are good to go. Enjoy!

Gingham Pixie Pants | OOTD

Have you ever had a pair of pants you love so much that you would try to pair them with just about anything? Yep, me too! For me right now its my Old Navy gingham pixie pants. They are so comfortable and can be dressed up or down easily. I’ve worn them with t-shirts, button downs, blouses, you name it! For this look I chose a textured gray long sleeve top that I fell in love with while I was in Europe during the summer. Leave me a comment about what pants you currently have on repeat. Enjoy!

Spice Up Your T-Shirt

Most of us have what seems like thousands of basic t-shirts. They function as is but sometimes you may feel the urge to do a little bit more with them. When the feeling hits you, go for easy layering. It will give your basic tee new life and give you several new looks.

Most of you know I practically live in Old Navy so this ENTIRE look is from there. I chose a thin olive green button down shirt to layer underneath my relaxed fit striped tee. Add in a pair of black rockstar jeans and chucks and now my tee looks #neverbasic.

This is also perfect for people like me who get cold very easily. I’ll be layering up as soon as Houston cools down. How would you layer a basic tee to give it new life? Leave me a comment, I’d love to hear. Enjoy!
