I am NOT down with skipping over Thanksgiving and going straight to Christmas but I can’t lie, I am thinking about my gift giving already. I am at the stage in my life that I want to give practical gifts that will actually be loved and used. Classic styles are definitely the way to go. If I were to receive this plaid coat from someone as a gift this holiday season I would be thrilled! This long wool blend coat will be in your closet forever! It is classic so it will forever be in style. It can easily be dressed up for more formal occasions as well as dressed down for a casual day of brunch and errands.

Many will say that women don’t know what they want. They obviously are not talking about Cara Carbajal and Kahia Perry of Richly Clad. The name Richly Clad represents style while simultaneously encompassing the way they want their clients to feel with they shop there. Owners Kahia and Cara were friends and worked together for years before they decided that Richly Clad was in their futures.

Kahia and Cara share a similar aesthetic but still have their own styles. Cara loves feminine things like lace camisoles while Kahia is a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl but their joint love for neutrals show in the selections available in the boutique. It’s really a minimalist’s dream which is why I was giddy just being there. They selectively add pops of color into the store as they see fit. Carrying over eight local brands, the clothing and accessories there are everyday wear. The pieces you get at Richly Clad will fit seamlessly into your wardrobe to mix and match with existing pieces. Around 50% of their items are exclusive to Richly Clad so you don’t have to worry about someone else wearing your new favorite finds.

Their goal is to give each customer a personal and private shopping experience. It’s not rushed or overcrowded like some strip center stores can be. Stylist Ashley Dunn

If you haven’t seen a stylist work to create looks in person than you are missing out on a huge part of the fashion industry. Imagine a busy little bee buzzing around from flower to flower collecting nectar. Watching stylist Ashley Dunn work gave me that same exact visual. I watched her start with inspiration, then she covered an ENTIRE store in about 30 minutes before she started narrowing them down. It was like magic, watching all these separate pieces come together for a complete looks.

As I got to talk more with Ashley I found out that she was not only pulling clothes for an upcoming menswear shoot, but a video shoot as well. The shoots were a few days away but on the day of our meeting she still had to speak to pageant girls at The University of Houston about personal styling. Her to-do-list goes on and on and things are added to it on an hourly basis. She keeps a running list of times, places and locations for her schedule. While most of the world is sleeping Ashley stays up as late as she needs to, to be sure that her daily list is organized for the next day.

Things had not always been so busy for this now experienced stylist working in Houston. Starting out in the corporate world, Ashley eventually left that career to follow her passion and dreams of being a respected, working stylist. Not only did she chase her dreams, she caught them! In 2003 Ashley was still pursuing her degree in college but she knew a career in fashion would make her feel fulfilled. From then until now, the market for stylists in Houston has changed dramatically. There was little demand when she first began styling so making something out of nothing was what she did. She set goals and networked to meet the right people in the industry. Over time people took note of her work ethic and professionalism. In combination with her keen sense on style, it propelled her to the top. She now attends NYFW and has a regular monthly segment on Great Day Houston. She’s a got expert on style and fashion.

None of this came easy, it was worked and sacrificed for! When I asked Ashley how many career goals she has set and met for herself, she said “It is hard to keep count, but the true blessings are the unexpected milestones that you reach along the way. Being recognized among your peers is and continues to be one of the more rewarding elements.”

Runway Houston 5

Runway Houston 5 was held at the Citadel on Kirby and it was an absolute delight! The proceeds from the night went to benefit Houston Children Give Back and Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Although Omar Marcos has organized this event several times before, this was my first year to attend and it left me wishing I had gone in previous years. Special guest host Hunter Bell was charming as she explained how her recent move to Houston has given her a new found love for deep fried Oreo’s.

Runway Designers for the evening included Candice Cuoco (House of Ccuoco), Aries Milan (Kate Mills Pretty) , Joyce Echols (Joyce Echols), Paola Contreras (Inclan), and Nancy Nguyen (Nhi Nguyen). It was very pleasing to the eye to such such well made clothing from some many aesthetics and points of view. (See photos below)

There were several unique art installations from various artist including Fariba Abedin, Kelly Devine,Isrel Fonseca, Joubair Joubert, and Taft McWhorter. The common area was adorned with beautiful eye catching pieces and well as some art inspired garments.

I could try to explain how amazing the evening was in words but the photos will do a better job. One of the aspects I value most about runway shows are the countless staff members that come together to make it go off without a hitch. Top Shop Fun | OOTD

Top Shop celebrated it’s 1st year in the Houston Galleria with a birthday celebration. For this runway show every model styled their own look that highlighted a new denim piece for spring/summer. Needless to say, I had an absolute blast! Fashion shows always allow me to experiment with looks with out commitment so I was in heaven. I started by picking out high waisted denim shorts. From there I fell in LOVE with this green bomber jacket. To pick up the details in the jacket I selected a red-orange body suit with a strappy back. The icing on the cake was the orange rimmed sun glasses with blue lens detail. In these pics I’m wearing my own criss cross leopard print wedges but during the show, I wore Top Shop Boho wedges. I love this fun look for beach or festival wear.
