The Shelby Rose Collection

The Shelby Rose Collection began with a mom of two looking at her makeup pouch and wishing it was something that she loved. Shelby loves dance and over 26 years she has led, choreographed and performed countless times with the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets dance team. Even today as an elementary school teacher in Houston, Texas Shelby hosts a dance club for the students that she teaches physical education to.

Only close friends and family knew of another talent that Shelby would soon explore again. Shelby’s grandmother, Rose Marion Pullum was born in 1905 and gave Shelby the first sewing machine she ever owned. Rose taught her how to sew and creating and crafting has been apart of Shelby’s life ever since. At a friends request, Shelby sewed a few throw pillows and it was then that she realized that if she made her own makeup pouch, should would love it much more the the ones she currently owned. Shelby dusted off her sewing machine and explored her creativity in new ways.

Shelby went out and got fabrics that she loved for the pouches that she planned to make. While shopping for fabric she realized that she didn’t love her pouches because the INSIDE was boring! She resolved to fix that problem by using playful sophisticated prints on the outside and eclectic linings on the inside. It was then, that The Shelby Rose Collection was born.

Her handmade pouches come in 3 different sizes and are customizable. They can be used as a pouch as well as a clutch when you’re going out. You can check out The Shelby Rose Collection on:

The Cusp Fashion Event by Neiman Marcus

The Cusp Fashion Event at Neiman Marcus last night felt like a meeting of the minds for fashionable and talented women! I mean, from the moment I arrived I met so many intelligent women with wonderful things to say. I even found a new BFF! Lol (Hey Lacey!!)

The music was awesome and the fashion was great. Trending for spring right now is anything off the shoulder, lots of denim, wide leg (flare, bootcut) pants, tons of lace, and bright red-orange colors.

The panelist for the evening included WNBA star Skylar Diggins, Actress Laura Bell Bundy,  BKR Founder Kate Cutler, and Molly Bernade from the lifestyle blog “A Piece of Toast“.

It was wonderful to hear the story behind the BKR glass water bottles from the founder her self. We often become innovative out of necessity and thats the story behind the BKR bottles. Kate and her partner Tal just felt like they were drinking from trash when they would throw away plastic water bottles after drinking it all. Creating something beautiful that is also sustainable helped them to stay excited about drinking their daily intake of water.

Actress Laura Bell Bundy was hilarious as usual as she explained to us that trying to choose a favorite between tv acting, broadway and signing was like trying to choose a parent. You kind of need them all! Ha ha! Her true love is with performing in general. No need to start picking sides 🙂

When it comes to fashion, Skylar Diggins can’t go with out a black leather jacket. She was even wearing one last night. It’s a super versatile piece that is never going out of style. The true staple of her wardrobe in her “CONFIDENCE”! Just like one of her style icons Zendaya,  she feels she can wear and do anything if she is confident when she does it.

Rounding out the panelist is blogger Molly Bernade who’s current obsession is off the shoulder tops. She’s hoping they don’t go out of style too soon because of her current “investment” into so many of them. Lol  Her advice to new bloggers is to be original in your voice and content because that’s what others will love about you.

The evening was amazing and I can’t wait until the next event! Feel free to share this recap with other beautiful ladies, Enjoy!

Vintage Meets Chic

Most fashionistas love vintage clothing but don’t want to look frumpy while they’re wearing it. Jai Jones of Jaided325 has a keen eye for styling vintages pieces with everyday wear to create timeless chic looks.

As a young girl , Jai watched her mother dress in beautiful garments and that adoration soon turned into a passion for fashion. Jai has worked as a stylist and is no stranger to finding the right look by mixing old and new. Jai selects vintage pieces for Jaided325 not based on the age of the garment, but by what appeals to her. She admits that some of her more interesting pieces are for that woman who is bold and wants to stand out. To give that bold woman a one of a kind feel, Jai works internationally to provide exclusivity to her brand and customers.

Jaided325 is all clothing but Jai has a small (big, Ha Ha!) obsession with crazy shoes, hats, brooches  and purses. Every time she steps out you can expect a unique look that you won’t soon forget. Take a moment to check out Jai’s store located at Art Square Studios on Commerce to find your next outfit for any event. Enjoy!

Happy FriYaY!

Happy FriYay y’all! My ootd says it all right!?!? We made it to another Friday and it is cause for a celebration. Before you say that we should treat “everyday” like Friday, you must admit that sometimes Fridays feel like a breath of fresh air, light at the end of the tunnel, and guacamole on top of your chipotle bowl! 🙂

A few weeks ago I was browsing the explore tab on Instagram when I can across a cool t-shirt company called Hen&Will. They specialize in adorable kids t-shirts with hip saying and monograms. They had a “FriYay” shirt for kids but I loved it so much I couldn’t pass it up. I messaged the owners to see if it came in adult sizes. It didn’t at first but they assured me they could help get me one soon! Visit Hen&Will online and on Instagram to check out their cool kids wear and get your own FriYay t-shirt. Use promo code “AuthenticallyB” for 10% off your entire order.

The shirt is charcoal gray with white lettering so I paired it with white deconstructed denim jeans. Their are usually two versions of most of my ootd’s. One has a dressy shoe and the other version has a more comfortable shoe for running errands or just for plain ol’ comfort. I would wear my leopard ballet flats to run around and the heels for an outing with friends.

Do you have a Friday “uniform”?  If so, leave me a comment and tell me about what you like to wear to celebrate Fridays! Enjoy!

Chic and Tapered

It’s fun sharing my hair goals with all of you!  This might sound crazy but as I’m making progress towards my tapered afro, I’m “craving” hair styles that I’m not even close to attaining like bangs and box braids. Ha ha! Every time I see a gorgeous girl with any type of bang or braids it sends me into a mini hair panic. (I know I’m so dramatic, Lol)

Over the last 3 months I’ve seen a tremendous amount of growth with my hair. I can also say that after having really long hair at one point and super short hair now, I am addicted to getting hair cuts. The hardest thing about growing my tapered afro out is staying out of the barbers chair. The top of my hair is about 3 to 3 1/2 inches long now. The sides and back are gradually shorter closer to my ears and the nape of my neck.

I love this tapered style because it’s a chic take on the twa (teeny weeny afro) and super low maintenance. Some view the twa only as a starting point. I’ve come across many naturals that have never considered keeping their natural hair short. To be honest, I did the same thing. When I big chopped, I immediately had visions of a gigantic afro in my mind. While I did achieve that, I didn’t consider all the fun styles I missed out on by growing my hair out right away.

Remember, much like life, having natural hair is a journey. You don’t have to stick to one thing. Feel free to change your hair as often as you change your mind. Don’t forget to leave comments about your current hair goals! Enjoy!
